Our Treatments

Braces
Everyone’s teeth are different and must be treated individually. All the braces Dr. Jennifer Yau uses have customized prescriptions. They are prescribed to achieve specific tooth movements so that the teeth are in their ideal positions.
Metal braces is the most typical orthodontic treatment seen. They usually involve a rainbow of colors (if wished), which can be perfect for any upcoming holidays.
Clear braces are less visible since they are more translucent. They are perfect for those who looking for something more esthetic or are allergic to certain metals.
The wires attaching the brackets together are customized to the teeth. We start with light, gentle NiTi wires that include memory. What does “memory” mean? These wires, originally invented by NASA, are able to remember their original shape and are specialized in creating beautiful smiles. They apply soft forces and ease the crooked teeth to straightness.
Towards the middle of treatment, Dr. Jennifer Yau will begin bending the wires to personalize the braces to each patient. Every tooth is slightly different and will need small, detailed modifications, which are done by Dr. Yau.

Adult Treatment
Many times your dentist will find themselves limited with what they can do to due to the positioning of the teeth. That’s why orthodontic treatment may be needed before you get that veneer, bridge, or implant. An orthodontist, like Dr. Jennifer Yau, can move the teeth into better positions. This will then help your dentist be able to put the final restoration in the best spot.
At our office, Dr. Yau works closely with many dentists to ensure her patients will have a good experience. She will communicate with your preferred dentist prior to starting orthodontic treatment to develop a thorough treatment plan in order to achieve your goals.
If you are looking only to get a few teeth positioned, we can also customize the treatment and do limited orthodontic treatment.
Every patient is different, and every patient gets their individualized treatment plan.
Clear Aligners
Clear aligners are plastic trays that are customized to your teeth. Usually there are two aligners per set, one for your top teeth and one for your bottom teeth. They resemble mouthguards or nightguards.
With clear aligner therapy, you will receive several sets of aligners. Each set of aligners are worn for a short period of time (ranges between 5 days to 2 weeks) before switching to the next set. As you go through each set, the aligners will put small pressures on your teeth, moving them to their ideal locations.
- Patients who want something more esthetic
- Patients who want to be able to eat and floss normally
- Patients who grind at night (the aligners act as a nightguard)
- Patients who have multiple restorations
- Patients who have gum or periodontal issues and need gentle movements
- Patients who only want to come to appointments every 2-3 months

Orthognathic Surgery
Sometimes patients have malalignment of their jaws and require more advance treatment, such as orthognathic surgery. Dr. Yau will communicate with your preferred oral surgeon to make sure your experience is as smooth and comfortable as possible.
Phase I (& II)
Phase I treatment is early interceptive treatment for children who still have their baby teeth.
Some children (around the age of 6 to 9 years old) need early orthodontic treatment to correct certain bite or jaw issues. At this age, the upper and lower jaws are still able to be changed with orthodontic appliances. The primary goal of Phase I is to allow for favorable growth of the jaws and eruption of the permanent teeth.
Phase I treatment may involve appliances and limited braces depending on the child’s clinical condition. The appliances will help the jaws be positioned better so that the child will grow normally. For example, if a child needs a wider upper jaw to help with crowding, crossbites, and/or airway issues, we use an expander. The limited braces will help align the anterior teeth and allow for a much more esthetic smile!
